Med-TSO, in collaboration with ENTSO-E, is thrilled to announce the 2024 update of the Map of the Interconnected Electricity Transmission Networks. This latest edition provides an exhaustive overview of the transmission system network operated by Med-TSO and ENTSO-E members, showcasing almost 500.000 km of high-voltage lines across the Mediterranean region.
Building on the success of the previous edition, released in 2018, this map highlights developments up to 2023 and underscores the strategic role of interconnected electricity grids in ensuring energy security and supporting the green transition. It continues to provide a comprehensive depiction of the region’s three synchronous zones:
- ENTSO-E’s Continental Europe zone,
- Southwestern Mediterranean Block.
- Southeastern Mediterranean Block.
This joint initiative underscores the importance of cooperation between Med-TSO and ENTSO-E in the development of resilient, clean, and integrated energy systems. By mapping lines from 132 to 400 kV, the map serves as a tool for stakeholders, policymakers, and researchers to understand the state of grid development and interconnections and guide future energy projects. It also includes, for the first time, six interconnection projects among those studied by Med-TSO in the Mediterranean Masterplan of Interconnections 2022, considered the most mature, in addition to lines and key generation stations over 100 MW capacity, reflecting regional grid characteristics. Enhanced zoom sections also spotlight progress in Mediterranean and MENA interconnections.
We invite you to explore the map to gain valuable insights into the region’s electricity network and its role in driving energy integration, sustainability, and security.
