Med-TSO 23rd General Assembly
On 25 November 2021, Med-TSO, the Association of Mediterranean Transmission System Operators, held its 23rd General Assembly in an online format. The event was dedicated to reviewing the progress achieved with Med-TSO’s ambitious goals, including the different cooperation agreements and the TEASIMED project, which is now set to enter its second year of development.
The President of Med-TSO, Chaher Boulakhras, opened his intervention updating on the status of the collaboration with COMELEC, the Comité Maghrébin de l’Electricité, of which he is President too, and on role the two Associations can play in setting up an Interconnected Electricity Exchange Zone (IEEZ) in the Maghreb Region, one of the most important objectives of TEASIMED.
Mr Boulakhras addressed that “the collaboration across all the regional actors is essential to secure the success of this operation”. In that sense, he explained that the procedures to consolidate the Maghreb Pilot Project will be conducted by the members of the Commission des Interconnexions Maghrébines of COMELEC in coordination with experts from Med-TSO “for creating the best conditions possible to exploit the synergies between the two organizations”.
Following the commencement of the meeting, given the end of the mandate of Mr Albertino Meneses (REN, Portugal) and Mr Serhat Metin (TEIAS, Turkey) on 27 November, the members of the General Assebly re-appointed Mr Meneses and Mr Metin as Vice-Presidents of Med-TSO for a further 3-year mandate, until November 24th, 2024.
The General Assembly gave also the opportunity to the Members for reviewing the status of some of the most mature interconnection projects in the Mediterranean region. Interconnections play a vital role in Med-TSO’s ultimate goal of promoting the creation of a Mediterranean energy market.
Notwithstanding the impact of the global pandemic, still affecting Med-TSO’s agenda, the participants to the General Assembly welcomed the successful development of TEASIMED activities and the capability of the Association to overcome the challenges of these troublesome times.
