Med-TSO and the League of Arab States sign Memorandum of Understanding

In the last days of December 2024, the League of Arab States (LAS) and the Association of the Mediterranean Transmission System Operators (Med-TSO) signed a Memorandum of Understanding, establishing a framework for cooperation aiming at enhancing energy cooperation and fostering a more stable and integrated energy landscape within the Mediterranean region.

The two organizations share eight members (Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, and Tunisia). The key objectives of the memorandum are to promote sustainable development and economic growth in the MENA region through a secure and interconnected energy future.  To achieve these goals, the agreement outlines several areas of cooperation, encompassing the development of electricity markets and power systems, focusing on developing studies, joint projects, and harmonising initiatives towards regional integration.

Furthermore, this memorandum emphasises the importance of knowledge sharing and capacity building, as well as the need to facilitate the exchange of information and technical assistance.

The document also highlights the importance of defining regular coordination meetings, flexible cooperation mechanisms, and developing action plans to ensure effective implementation.

This collaboration represents a significant step towards enhanced energy cooperation and will undoubtedly contribute to a more secure and interconnected energy future for the Mediterranean region.
