On 13 November 2024, Med-TSO successfully hosted a public webinar focused on the Mediterranean Adequacy Assessments within the framework of the TEASIMED 2 project. The event attracted stakeholders from across the Mediterranean region, various international financial institutions, and other key organisations.
The webinar was opened by Angelo Ferrante, Secretary General of Med-TSO, who welcomed participants and outlined the significance of seasonal probabilistic power system adequacy assessments for the Mediterranean region. This ongoing initiative, which started during the first TEASIMED project, aims to provide Transmission System Operators (TSOs) and relevant stakeholders with essential insights to support balanced decision-making regarding power system adequacy.
Federico Quaglia, Chairperson of the Technical Committee Operation of Med-TSO, presented an overview of the adequacy assessment studies developed under TEASIMED2. He highlighted the methodologies utilised to evaluate power system capacity under various scenarios, focusing on how interconnections can mitigate potential shortages.
The session’s highlight was the detailed presentation by Ahmed El Shami, Med-TSO Adequacy Study Team Coordinator, who described the Winter Outlook 2024/2025. His insights into anticipated capacity and demand dynamics for the upcoming winter season provided critical information for all attendees, equipping them with the knowledge needed to prepare for potential challenges.
This webinar underscores Med-TSO’s commitment to fostering collaboration and transparency among Mediterranean stakeholders as we navigate our region’s energy adequacy complexities.
Stay tuned for future webinars and initiatives as we continue to build on our mission to support TSOs and enhance energy security across the Mediterranean.
