Secretary General of Med-TSO Angelo Ferrante intervened in the opening ceremony of the 41st CIGRE Symposium “Reshaping the Electric Power System Infrastructure”, held today in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
In his speech, he highlighted how, for achieving an effective Energy transition and a sustainable growth in the region, the Mediterranean energy system must undergo a fundamental restructuring and reshaping to provide the necessary level of decarbonization, implying a substantial increase of investments in grids and renewable electricity generation.
He also illustrated as Med-TSO is already working in this direction, both promoting the development of the grids and the setting of common ground rules, and also trying to obtain the support of regional institutions and stakeholders to overcome institutional and financial barriers.
The symposium is focusing on the future transformation of the electricity sector, the new framework of generation, transmission, distribution, and demand side and it is oriented to new methods, technologies, materials and examples related to research of electric power industry equipment and infrastructure, involving generators, power transformers, transmission and distribution equipment, various technologies for cables, overhead lines, substations, protection, automation and testing techniques.
This symposium is held 100 years after the establishment of the international organization of CIGRE and 40 years after the first CIGRE symposium and its proceedings will last until next 24 November.
