Teasimed 3 (ongoing,– 2030)

Since 1 January 2026 Med-TSO is developing the project TEASIMED 3 (Towards an Efficient, Adequate, Sustainable and Interconnected MEDiterranean Power System). This project, that will last until the end of 2029, is the fifth initiative co-funded by the European Union, and a follow-up to the TEASIMED and TEASIMED 2 projects.

This new project addresses five key objectives: integrating massive RES into a secure and adequate power system; preparing the grid of tomorrow through long-term planning studies; promoting the integration of power systems (in terms of infrastructure development and interoperability); reinforcing the backbone of the power system through enhanced data; and increasing the project impact through knowledge sharing and visibility.

According to the Med-TSO Action Plan for the years 2025–2030, this project outlines a comprehensive strategy to facilitate the energy transition in the Mediterranean, while broadening its focus to include neighbouring regions, such as the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and the African Union (AU) countries. To this aim, TEASIMED 3 takes into consideration the necessity to explore and implement cooperation mechanisms to ensure alignment with other initiatives, such as the Pan-Arab Electricity Market (PAEM) and the African Single Electricity Market (AfSEM).

Furthermore, this project aims to support the Trans-Mediterranean Energy and Clean Tech (T-MED) initiative, launched by the EC in the frame of the new Pact for the Mediterranean, promoting the regional energy transition goals by fostering the integration of the Mediterranean Power system through the development of new High Voltage (HV) electricity interconnections and operational rules.
