“Very long-term Mediterranean Energy Perspectives” (E-Highway) is the report, developed under the Med-TSO project TEASIMED 2, that will be the focus of Med-TSO next webinar. On 8 April, the webinar will provide an in-depth analysis of the energy demand projections for 11 countries in MENAT region up to 2050: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia, and Türkiye.
This report introduces three strategic scenarios – Inertial (IN), Mediterranean Ambition (MA), and Net Zero (NZ) – offering comprehensive insights into potential energy pathways, their implications for infrastructure, emissions, and regional cooperation. It quantifies the immense leap required to move from current trajectories to a carbon-neutral electricity system by 2050, and it identifies key barriers and proposing concrete bridging actions across policy, market integration and governance.
The goal
This high-level webinar aims to disseminating the critical findings and recommendations of the Med-TSO E-Highway report.
Its core purpose is to provide a detailed overview of the key drivers influencing future energy demand and the electricity sector across the targeted MENAT countries. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the three distinct 2050 scenarios—Inertial, Mediterranean Ambition, and Net Zero—and their projected impacts on:
- Energy consumption
- Electrification
- CO2 emissions
- Renewable energy penetration.
A central objective is to elaborate on the critical gap between Mediterranean Ambition and Net Zero scenarios, underscoring the profound need and extensive scale of transformation required. Moreover, the webinar will propose actionable strategies, as well as policy, regulatory, market integration, and capacity-building measures.
All these strategies will be indispensable for achieving a carbon-neutral electricity sector by 2050
