On November 20, 2024, Med-TSO convened its 30th General Assembly in Lisbon, hosted by REN and chaired by President Sabah Mashaly, recently appointed Egypt’s Deputy Minister of Electricity and Energy.
At the beginning of the meeting, President Mashaly and all the Members expressed their gratitude to Mr Albertino José Cerejo Meneses, Director of Institutional Relations at REN, Portugal, who finished after six years of service as Vice President of the Association and is close to retirement. During the Assembly, elections were held for two Vice President positions. The Assembly unanimously elected Mr Serhat Metin, Head of the Planning and Investment Management Department at TEIAŞ, Türkiye and Mr Joao Emanuel Afonso, Head of Grid Planning of REN, Portugal, as Vice Presidents until November 2026.
The meeting also welcomed Ms Milou Beerepoot, Programme Manager at DG Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations of the European Commission, who oversees Med-TSO’s TEASIMED 2 Project. She shared insights on the Commission’s new programs for the Mediterranean, including its future support for Med-TSO activities.
The approval of the Association’s Action Plan 2025-2030 was a significant milestone. This process, initiated in January in Cairo, involved active collaboration and continuous interaction among Members, setting a clear path for Med-TSO’s future direction.
Among other agenda items, Secretary-General Angelo Ferrante presented an assessment of the Association’s financial situation, a membership status update, and a review of the 2024 pre-closing figures and the 2025-2027 budget.
Updates were also shared on the TEASIMED 2 project, now entering its final year. The project includes the development of the Mediterranean Power Interconnections Perspectives—a groundbreaking assessment of potential interconnection projects with a long-term outlook to 2040.
The General Assembly underscored the value of cooperation among TSOs and the dedication of all involved in Med-TSO activities. These efforts continue to strengthen the Association’s position and advance its shared goal of fostering a unified Mediterranean energy market.
