Today in Marrakech, Med-TSO organised the second regional roadshow “Connecting Grids, Securing the Future: the TEASIMED 2 effort for an Integrated Mediterranean Power System”, hosted by ONEE, the Moroccan TSO member of the Association.
This roadshow followed the first TEASIMED 2 regional event held in Amman in late 2025 and forms part of a wider series of regional initiatives leading to the project’s final conference. It brought together policy makers, transmission system operators and regional stakeholders to discuss the next phase of Mediterranean power integration.
This event focused on moving from studies to implementation, by discussing how TEASIMED 2 can inform concrete investment decisions, operational arrangements and regional cooperation mechanisms, especially in the Western Mediterranean.
The programme opened with three welcome addresses.
Tarik Hamane, CEO of ONEE, who underlined the need for a coordinated regional approach to address renewable integration and grid resilience. He also highlighted the role of regional cooperation in moving from studies to implementation and in identifying concrete pathways for coordinated investments and operational solutions across the Mediterranean.
Ouhmed Mohamed, Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development of Morocco, underlined the country’s ambitious renewable energy strategy and the important investments in grid development, flexibility and interconnections.
Macarena Ruiz, Energy Programme Manager at the EU Delegation to Morocco, reaffirmed the European Union’s strong support for regional energy cooperation as a response to current geopolitical and energy challenges, and celebrated the work Med-TSO has done since its foundation in 2012 in connecting 20 Transmission System Operators, reaffirming the commitment of EU to its activities, through the co-financing of Teasimed projects.
Sabah Mashaly, President of Med-TSO, and Angelo Ferrante, Secretary General of Med-TSO opened the event introducing the role of Teasimed 2, then the discussions focused on Med-TSO’s Vision for 2040, the development of regional interconnections, with a particular focus on the Western Mediterranean area, and the policy and technical conditions required to support a more integrated and resilient Mediterranean power system.
Through this events, Med-TSO is reaffirming its role in strengthening the regional dialogue and in supporting the cooperation towards a more interconnected, secure and sustainable electricity system in the Mediterranean.
