Pathways to Regional Energy Transition in the Mediterranean Area

Last Monday 9 September, our President Moncef Harrabi and our Secretary General Angelo Ferrante participated to the conference “Pathways to Regional Energy Transition in the Mediterranean Area”, a side event of the 24th World Energy Council Congress, held from 9 to 12 September in Abu Dhabi.

The seminar was organized by the Observatoire Méditerranéen de l’Energie and the Italian Committee of the World Energy Council, with the aim to deepen the energy transition process undergoing in the Mediterranean Area and to highlight the paths that needs to be embarked by countries in the region in order to launch a structured regional cooperation on a sustainable Mediterranean energy framework.

Mr. Harrabi welcomed the participants in his capacity of President of the Observatoire Méditerranéen de l’Energie, while Mr. Ferrante took part as discussant at the roundtable that followed the keynote speeches of the seminar.
The discussion focused on the energy transition in the Mediterranean Region, its peculiarities, risks and opportunities.

Mr. Ferrante highlighted the importance of reinforcing interconnections, to facilitate the integration of the Mediterranean electricity grids and guarantee the necessary flexibility and resilience requested to modern Power Systems by the energy transition.

Since 1924, the World Energy Council organizes a triennial Congress aiming at enabling the dialogue amongst Ministers, CEOs, policy-makers and industry practitioners on critical developments in the energy sector, offering to the participants the opportunity to better understand energy issues and solutions from a global perspective.
