Med-TSO is proud to announce the release of its second Statistical Factsheet, which provides a snapshot of key statistics, including electricity demand, generation, and installed capacity in the Mediterranean as of December 31, 2023. By visualizing these indicators, the factsheet aims to provide transparent, data-driven insights into the Mediterranean energy landscape and enhance understanding of regional energy dynamics, serving both industry experts and policymakers.
Initially proposed during the Mediterranean Project 2, this publication has been reimagined as a concise, accessible tool for presenting electricity trends across the Mediterranean.
Key findings include:
- Electricity Demand: dynamic growth in non-European Mediterranean countries contrasts with stable demand in European regions.
- Generation Mix: renewables contributed 31.5% of total generation, while fossil fuels and nuclear play key roles in energy security.
- Installed Capacity: renewables now represent 47% of total capacity, reflecting ongoing investments in sustainable energy.
Med-TSO’s Power System Data Platform has been updated offering country-specific database access for all Med-TSO members. Moreover, the Power Statistics Data Platform allows users to visualize electricity exchange information within the Mediterranean region.
