“Cross Border PPAs between Morocco and the EU: barriers and what it takes to overcome them”: Secretary General of Med-TSO at Res4Africa event

Last 15 April 2021, Secretary General of Med-TSO, Angelo Ferrante, participated to the event “Cross Border PPAs between Morocco and the EU: barriers and what it takes to overcome them with”, promoted by RES4Africa Foundation, with a speech on the role of TSOs in enabling the energy transition in the western Mediterranean.

He presented the interconnection projects involving Morocco, with Spain and Portugal, developed by Med-TSO in the Mediterranean Masterplan 2020, main outcome of the Mediterranean Project 2.

Furthermore, it has been highlighted the importance of the integration of the Euro-Mediterranean Power Systems as a whole, although applying a gradual approach, extending the view to a regional perspective and making some considerations on the need of a Mediterranean regional integration to foster an effective and reliable exchange of electricity between Europe and North Africa, considering the role of Morocco, which is currently the only country in the region connected directly to the EU PS.

This, without forgetting the other projects in the pipeline for connecting the two continents, with an outlook, therefore, on the possibility to have an effective Euro-Mediterranean Power System in the next years.
